Mary F. Egan Scholarship

This scholarship, endowed by the family of Mary F. Egan, provides financial assistance of $1,000 to an individual attending a college or university on a full-time basis with the intent of earning an undergraduate degree related to speech/language, health care, and health or social services.

Mary Egan was employed at KCCDD for fourteen years. Prior to working at KCCDD, Egan graduated from Bradley University with a degree in speech and hearing. While volunteering at the Galesburg Mental Health Center, she suffered an accident while training individuals for Special Olympics which left her with quadriplegia. Mary then began working for KCCDD as a typist in November of 1980 using a mouth stylus for assistance. Egan assumed the position of Communications Specialist in 1987, where she oversaw speech and language programs for more than 100 clients and in 1992 was named KCCDD Employee of the Year. Unfortunately, Mary died in 1995 from complications that were a result of her condition.

The scholarship, established in memory of Mary F. Egan, continues to honor her perseverance and dedication to helping others reach their full potential despite personal obstacles by providing financial assistance to an exemplary individual pursuing an undergraduate degree.

A complete set of forms may be obtained from the KCCDD Administrative Office located at 2015 Windish Drive, Galesburg, Illinois 61401. In addition to filling out the form, an essay of no more than 500 words outlining one’s career goals and future plans will be required.

The deadline for application is June 1st of each year.
